Sera performance schedule

Behind the curtain: Taking its title from the Italian word for evening, Sera is a vivid and haunting portrait of Pompeii, the Roman city destroyed by volcano in 79 AD. Directed by Rebecca Engle, the production features guest actor Alex Kirschner (06) and choreography by CatherineMarie Davalos.

Sera offers a sharp and surprising portrait of Pompeii, the affluent Roman city destroyed by volcano in 79AD. Playwright Santillo finds dark humor and a compelling urgency in her subject. She explains: "What drew me to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius was that there had been warning signs beforehand. Politically, socially, and environmentally, we live in a time where everything is on the verge - but what is our imminent "Big One?"

Angela Santillo

Angela, who graduated from the college with a double major in Theatre and English in 2005, says she finds dark humor and urgency in the story of Pompeii. "What drew me to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius," she explains, "was that even though Pompeiians didn't know it was a volcano, there had been warning signs. Politically, socially, and environmentally, we live in a time where everything is on the verge--but what is our imminent 'Big One?'"

Other performances of Angela's work include the premiere of Middlecrest at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York in October, and a reading of her play, Spark, by Sarah Lawrence College's graduate-operated theater company. Angela is currently a graduate student at Sarah Lawrence College and will graduate in May 2010.
