Richard McLean, renowned photorealist painter of large format equine images, will be honored as the ninth Master Artist by the Saint Mary's College Museum of Art.
The retrospective features oil and watercolor paintings and mixed media works on paper. In addition to the iconic horses, the comprehensive exhibition includes landscapes, still lifes and never before exhibited portraits of friends and fellow artists.
Opening Day Events: In Conversation: McLean & Karlstrom at 2 p.m., in the Soda Activity Center, across the road from the Museum. A public reception will follow in the Museum Patio.
Art historian and catalog essayist Karlstrom is the former Regional Director of the Smithsonian's Archives of American Art based at the de Young Museum and the Huntington Library.
Begun in 1990, the Museum's Master Artist Tribute series is designed to showcase artists whose significance as teachers and influencers of art is nearly as profound as their estimable bodies of work.
