MORAGA, CA (Oct. 23, 2003) - Saint Mary's College students will take more than 100 inner-city children trick-or-treating around campus on Halloween and fete them with a party complete with games, crafts and a haunted house.

Saint Mary's College is hosting its sixth annual Halloween for Inner-City Children from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 31. The children will arrive on campus by chartered bus and divide into several groups to trick-or-treat around the residence halls and various administrative buildings. After collecting candy, the children will attend the Halloween party in the Soda Center.

The event is designed to give children from high-risk neighborhoods a safe place to trick-or-treat and the opportunity to experience a college campus, according to Chris Fuller of Campus Ministry.

"My hope is that someday a freshman at Saint Mary's will tell me that he or she remembers trick-or-treating here as a child," Fuller says.

The children are being brought to Saint Mary's by the following organizations: Jubilee West in Oakland, the Lasallian Educational Opportunities (LEO) Center in Oakland, Elizabeth House in Oakland, the East Bay Central American Refugee Committee in Oakland, and the DeMarillac Middle School in San Francisco.
