Saint Mary's College to Honor Lasallian Educator Gery Short

Outstanding Lasallian educator Gery Short, M. Div, M.A., M.S. will receive an honorary doctoral degree as the guest of honor at Saint Mary's College of California's annual De La Salle Week Convocation on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at 12:45 p.m. in the College Chapel.

The Convocation is the centerpiece of De La Salle Week, a week-long event for Saint Mary's students, Christian Brothers, faculty, and staff to increase awareness and celebrate the life of Saint John Baptist de La Salle, founder of the Christian Brothers, and our Lasallian heritage and mission.

For the past 14 years, Short has served as the Director of the Office of Education for the District of San Francisco and is a member of the District Leadership Team for the De La Salle Christian Brothers, Western Province - which oversees eleven high schools, a middle school, Saint Mary's College of California and other educational works in Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona and Tijuana, Mexico. He is considered one of the leaders and most experienced lay colleagues among the Christian Brothers and Lasallian schools in the country.

In his Convocation address, he will discuss a partner's journey in living the Lasallian mission. The Convocation will culminate with Short receiving the degree of Doctor of Educational Leadership, Honoris Causa.

Short earned a masters in divinity from the Franciscan School of Theology, a masters of arts degree from the Graduate Theological Union and a masters of science degree from Golden Gate University. He is a Sonoma resident and he and his wife, Rosanne Alexander, have three children. Short attends Saint Leo's Church in Boyes Hot Springs, Calif.
