Saint Mary's January Term is spotlighted as a distinctive academic program in the new book College Unbound: The Future of Higher Education and What It Means for Students. Written by the Chronicle of Higher Education's editor at large Jeffrey Selingo, the book examines what's working and what isn't in the field of higher education.
While Selingo points out some of the failings in the higher education industry, including the reality of graduates with huge debt loads and questionable employment skills, he also points out colleges that are well positioned for the future and are providing stellar educations to their students.
His chapter Future Forward includes Saint Mary's Jan Term as an example of an academic program that provides students with unique educational opportunities that allows them to connect classroom concepts with everyday problems in the real world.
