Saint Mary's College's goal of having 25 percent of incoming students eligible for federal Pell Grants was discussed in a Catholic News Service story on Aug. 20 about actions colleges are taking to help students better afford tuition. Michael Beseda, vice provost for enrollment, was quoted as saying that Saint Mary's values having students from all income levels and backgrounds. "There's all kinds of research that shows that there are huge educational benefits to having a diverse student population," Beseda said. "Students learn from one another."
