The Saint Mary's College MBA specialization in Sport Management and Graduate Kinesiology students had the opportunity to actually play some wheelchair basketball on campus Monday October 25th. The topic of disability in sports is an important part of any socially responsible sport management program. We are fortunate at Saint Mary's to have access to some key contacts in this area. Prior to the gym event, Dr. Mary Coleman, a Medical Commissioner in the world of disability sports, presented a lecture to the MBA in Sport Management students on the current issues facing the management of disability programs for athletes. Some athletes from the Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP) which is the leading provider and promoter of accessible sports and recreation opportunities for children and adults with physical disabilities in the greater San Francisco Bay Area, joined the MBA in Sport Management students in the gym. They provided the wheelchairs and expertise and the MBA students were able to meet with the athletes after the game to get some of their questions answered.
