The San Francisco Bay Area has a broad assortment of transportation options, including BART, CalTrain, bus service and San Francisco's famed cable cars.
County Connection Bus Service
Saint Mary’s undergraduates enjoy free bus service on the local County Connection bus service. Routes originating from the Saint Mary’s campus are free; transfers to other routes are regular fare. The County Connection provides fixed-route and paratransit service throughout the Central Contra Costa communities of Clayton, Concord, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Danville, San Ramon, Lafayette, Orinda, and Moraga, as well as unincorporated communities.
All 131 buses in the fixed-route fleet are fully equipped with wheelchair ramps or lifts.
Simply show your Saint Mary’s student ID card and the Bay Area is open to you. The County Connection takes you to BART and other destinations throughout central Contra Costa County. Gael Rail Night Bus Service
The Gael Rail, route 250, is a supplemental shuttle service between Saint Mary’s and Lafayette BART that runs beginning when the regular CCCTA service ends. The Gael Rail runs every hour on the hour as a supplement to the regular County Connection bus service. The final shuttle of the evening is at the Lafayette BART station when the last BART train arrives for the night. Like the traditional bus service, the Gael rail is open to the faculty and staff as well as the public for the regular bus fare.
The Gael Rail is just one of the steps the college has taken to provide safe alternatives to the automobile. Gael Rail has been an important step in the college’s effort to reduce our carbon foot print and provide safe alternatives to the automobile. However if you do need an automobile, the college offers WeCar car sharing.
WeCar Car Sharing
The College offers WeCar, the car sharing program for your short trips, weekends and overnights at reasonable rates. WeCar Car-Sharing is now available at Saint Mary’s with a car parked in front of Filippi Hall. With WeCar students have 24 hour access to vehicles conveniently parked right on campus. Faculty and Staff Drivers
- Faculty and staff members are required to be 21 years or older to join WeCar. Liability insurance is included.
