Actress & writer
My English degree has given me the flexibility to dabble in various fields where I have drawn confidently on the skills I developed at Saint Mary’s. Immediately out of college, I worked as an administrator and then moved on to become a project manager for SBC. After a few years in the corporate world, I ventured into the realm of non-profits: I have been an editorial assistant for a print and on-line magazine called Moxie and an administrator for an international educational non-profit. I have also served in several capacities in theater and film festivals.
I have recently transitioned into an artist. As an actress and writer, I am constantly relying on the skills I honed as an English major. I am willing to plunge myself into, explore, and appreciate difficult literature and dramaturgy. I employ a critical eye on the theater and film I view, read, and interpret for an audience, and am ultimately able to communicate my thoughts specifically and creatively.
English majors from any school can expect to walk away with an understanding of literature and an ability to write well. Saint Mary’s inspires her students to much more. I was challenged to analyze texts with extreme detail, to provide thought-provoking commentary, and construct impeccable sentences. From the selection of classes, to the dedication and knowledge of the professors, the English program is unique.
