Facilities Services Superintendent
Number of Years at Saint Mary's
What do you want the Saint Mary’s community to know about you?
I am currently the Superintendent for our Facilities Services Department here at Saint Mary’s. I’ve been involved on the construction and repair side of the Education process for the last 12 years. I spent nine plus years with the San Ramon Valley School District in Management as the Maintenance Coordinator prior to my coming to Saint Mary’s. I’ve been in a Management / Supervisor role most of the time overseeing no less than 30 staff members and most of the time closer to 40. In San Ramon I was responsible for 37 schools, a district office, and a Service Center. I also handled most of the outside construction contracts and a fair amount of Project Management just like the role I’ve taken on here at Saint Mary’s. Prior to that I spent many years in construction in the private sector. I did disappear into the corporate world for a while and worked as an Account Manager for a multibillion dollar company, I’ve have had my own plumbing business, I’ve sold Real Estate and been a building Inspector. Even though these other endeavors taught me many things I was always drawn back to education side of things. My goals has always been making sure the living learning environment was conducive to just that, “living and learning.” I solve problems for a living and love the feeling that gives me and of course others that are affected. I’ve had three or four very interesting careers each lasting 8 to 10 years, but think I've found my real calling here at Saint Mary’s rolling all my careers, experience and expertise into one.
Why do you want to join Staff Council?
First off, I was nominated which made me take a serious look at if this was something that made sense to me. The more I thought about it, the more I felt I wanted to do my part.
As I mentioned above, “I solve problems for a living.” I have no shortage of opinions and always like to be right smack in the middle of things. I believe my presence on Staff Council would benefit not only me, but, others. I’ll be a little closer to the pulse of our staff here at Saint Mary’s and have a better understanding of the good, the bad and even the ugly. I would think my problem solving skills would benefit others as well. I do have a full schedule and am slightly skeptical that I will be able to devote the time needed, but, still feel like I’d like to try. I think it’s important to know what staff thinks about things, to know where the problems are and to hopefully have a say in improving things and giving a voice to others that feel they have none.
