Maria Calderazzo, mezzo-soprano, in collaboration with Skye Atman, piano, presents an intriguing recital of art songs, arias and musical theatre selections representing the core of her repertoire and her soul as a performer. The program includes songs in Spanish by Agustín Lara, Beth Custer and Maurice Ravel, selections from the religious and secular vocal works of Ralph Vaughan Williams, an oratorio aria by J.S. Bach, and arias and scenes from popular operas and musicals, including Les Contes d'Hoffmann (Jacques Offenbach), Carmen (Georges Bizet), Sunday In The Park With George and Into The Woods (Stephen Sondheim). Additional featured performers include Micah Naler and Michael Niebuhr.Maria Calderazzo will be graduating from Saint Mary's College this May with a degree in Music, specializing in vocal performance. Since transferring to Saint Mary's in Fall 2010, she has performed with almost every music group on campus, including the Chamber Musicians, Voices of Broadway Ensemble, Glee Club and Chamber Singers. Maria recently portrayed the role of Bunny in the Saint Mary's production of June In A Box, a role written specifically for her. Aside from her career as a performer, Maria leads a second artistic life as a conductor, accompanist and theatre director. Upon graduation, Maria plans to pursue a Master's degree in Voice/Opera Performance and a career as an opera singer while continuing to direct opera and theatre.Skye Atman performs regularly as a pianist with many leading Bay Area soloists and ensembles, and serves as the accompanist for the Voices of Broadway Ensemble at Saint Mary's College. For 30 years she has performed with vocal and instrumental soloists, small ensembles, and choirs throughout the United States and United Kingdom. She is a versatile musician who enjoys working with theatrical companies such as Berkeley Repertory Theater, North Bay Opera, Mendocino Music Festival, Marin Theater, and Oakland Opera Theater, where she is Music Director. Skye completed her graduate studies in accompanying at USC and worked as a freelance musician in Los Angeles and London before moving to Berkeley.
