At the National Parliamentary Debate Association championship tournament at Texas Tech on March 18 to 23, Elizabeth Patterson was honored with an All-American Award. The award recognizes seniors who have demonstrated excellence in debate competition, outstanding academic achievement and active community service. Patterson was one of seven seniors recognized out of the nearly 400 competitors at the championship tournament.
Patterson has competed for Saint Mary's Macken Collegiate Forensics since the club transitioned to a program in 2006, earning the College national recognition on the debate circuit. Patterson and her partner, Ana Diaz, finished the season in the top 7 percent of the 1,086 senior-level teams in the nation. Additionally, as a double major in politics and business administration, Patterson has maintained a 3.67 GPA while actively and generously giving her time in service to SMC's community and beyond. Patterson will attend law school in the fall.
