Art Beat: Off the Beaten Path
Trade Secrets: Art Poetry Practice
Participants will be introduced to the relationship between visual arts and poetry, particularly through the form of cover art. Cover art will be printed and mounted as a small exhibit with interactive displays of artist portfolios. Poets from Saint Mary's College of CA and from the Bay Area community will read selections from their work and the participate in a panel with artists (graphic and book arts) that will reveal their processes in selecting or designing cover art, the relationship that poetry has to inspiring visual arts, as well as how visual art influences writing. Panel participants will also be invited to debrief with small groups of students in repsonse to life-Tweeted questions as well as in answer to the individual questions of writers and artists considering a collaboration.

Poets reading include our own Brenda Hillman, Sara Mumolo, and Raina J. León, joined by Kevin Simmonds, Alexandra Mattraw.
The panel will also include artists (graphic, visual, and book): Nora Hara, Paula Crawford, Jai Arun Ravine.
Art by cover artists will include Thomas Sayers Ellis, Arthur Tress, Kristy Bowen, Nori Hara, and Jeff Clark.
