The Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival's Regional Selection Committee has named the Saint Mary's fall theatre production of "Spring Awakening" a top theatre production in Region VII.
The musical, directed by Reid Davis and choreographed by is one of four productions from across the eight-state region to be selected to compete for national awards at the regional conference in Sacramento on Feb. 19.
SMC students will perform the show twice and compete for national awards. They will also present a workshop at the festival called "The Making of 'Awakening'." The interactive workshop will focus on techniques that were used to access emotion, develop character and create physical compositions and choreography in the show.
Special commendations were given to Irene Ryan Scholarship nominees Michael Craigen, Ollie Reyes and Kalise Ahern, along with stage managers Andrew Altomare and Hayley Axel and sound technician Kevin Quintero.
