Components
Component #1 – Peer Conduct
Saint Mary’s College places a high value on having students participate in the discipline process because as peers of the involved students, they bring a unique perspective to the process and can help the participating students to better understand the impact of their actions on other students and the rest of the community. The Peer Council is responsible for deliberating cases involving alleged violations of the Code through a discipline hearing. Board members consider information presented by involved students and are responsible for determining whether students are responsible for the reported violation. If students are found to be responsible, the board assigns appropriate sanctions.
Component #2 – Leadership Skills
Students on the Peer Council have the opportunity to participate in a variety of personalized leadership programs including workshops, retreats and activities. Peer Council members have flexibility in the opportunities they take advantage of and develop leadership skills that they seek to improve upon, while sharing their experiences with the entire board.
Component #3 – Shared Experiences
Shared Experiences are opportunities for the board to gather to share common time together and explore the greater community. These experiences range from collaborating on service opportunities to discovering the newest local restaurant.
