Counseling Center Procedures
How to make an appointment
You may either come into the Counseling Center, De La Salle Hall, Room 102, or call the receptionist at 631-4364. An appointment will be made for you or if a counselor is available, you can be seen immediately.
Who qualifies for the counseling center?
The Counseling Center is the primary provider of psychological services for full-time undergraduates at Saint Mary's College. A full-time undergraduate student can receive individual, group, or couples counseling by a psychologist or counselor. Graduate and part-time students are seen on a limited basis for evaluation and referral to a community practitioner. Faculty and staff are welcome to use our consultation and referral services.
How to make a referral
If you are concerned about a student, we suggest that you encourage him/her to come into the Counseling Center and make an appointment with a counselor to discuss the situation. Here are some helpful ways to refer a student:
- Suggest that the student come into the Center, Monday-Thursday 9:00-5:00pm or Friday 9:00-4:00pm
- Call the receptionist at the Center while you are with the student in order to facilitate contact. You may leave the student's name and indicate when they might come into the Center.
- Walk the student over to the Center. At that time, an appointment can be made, or if a counselor is available, the student can be seen immediately.
Please remember that the communication between a counselor and client is confidential. We cannot and do not discuss the details of a student's situation or even the fact that counseling is being received without the student's written consent.
Faculty and staff are encouraged to phone ahead and alert the Counseling Staff in the event of a student emergency.
