First Year Experience
Welcome to My SMC!
Your first year at Saint Mary’s will introduce you to many learning and living experiences that are unique to college life. To help support you in your transition, the College extends an invitation for all new freshmen to participate in an exciting new learning experience called My SMC! This course combines structured class discussions with co-curricular activities to form a learning experience designed to enhance your college experience and support you toward achieving your highest potential. My SMC! meets for only 90 minutes each week during the academic year, and adds one quarter-credit toward your graduation requirements.
My SMC! will:
- help you master the knowledge and tools necessary to succeed as a college student;
- stimulate and challenge your thinking about your educational and career goals;
- help you grasp the unique purpose and value of an SMC education;
- help connect your own values, interests and skills with the learning opportunities at SMC;
- open doors for you to get to know many of the people and resources available to support you – including Student Involvement and Leadership, Women’s Resource Center, Academic Advising Center, Tutorial and Academic Skills Center, the Delphine Intercultural Center, Ministry & Ministry, among many others;
- offer you opportunities to reflect on your progress – what’s working and what’s not – with your faculty advisor and classmates
