The Office of New Student & Family Programs
In an effort to support our departmental mission, the Office of New Student & Family Programs is committed to the following goals and learning outcomes.
Goals
- Promote a sense of belonging to and engagement in the Saint Mary’s community and surrounding Bay area.
- Assist new students in understanding their rights, responsibilities and opportunities within the campus community.
- Promote intellectual curiosity and the concept of academic community.
- Provide exposure to and involvement opportunities in co-curricular programs.
- Instill a sense of Gael pride through sharing the traditions and culture of the institution.
- Encourage an atmosphere which values diversity and fosters respect for others.
- Provide structured opportunities for new students develop connections and relationships with faculty, staff, student leaders and each other.
- Conduct ongoing evaluation and adaptation of programs and services in order to meet the needs of each entering class.
Learning Outcomes
- Develop a mission statement and personal goals for higher education.
- Learn to make informed meaningful affiliations and appropriate interpersonal relationships.
- Explore identity in relation to academic interests, personal values, abilities and decision making.
- Comprehend the relationship between education, career development and life exploration.
- More actively and effectively utilize campus resources in order to lead healthy lifestyles.
- Value a deeper connection to the College’s Liberal Arts, Catholic and Lasallian traditions.
- Understand the complexity of human differences and begin to appreciate differences as enriching life experiences.
- Become involved in civic engagement and social responsibility opportunities.
