what to pack

Sometimes it's easy to forget that you will be sharing your room with another person or two. There is very little space, so bring only what you need. If possible, talk to your roommate(s) before the semester begins to coordinate what each of you will bring so that you don't show up with 2 or 3 of everything. If you have a single room, you'll still need to bring the essentials and will still have limited space. Here’s a list to guide your packing.

  1. Bath towels, flip flops, and a shower caddy full of supplies
  2. Alarm clock
  3. Bed linens (size: extra long twin - 36"x80") & pillow (s)
  4. Small desk lamp (no halogen bulbs)
  5. Ethernet cord for high–speed internet connection
  6. Laundry soap & a small basket or portable hamper
  7. Mini-ironing board or wrinkle-release spray
  8. Extension cords & power strips
  9. An umbrella or rain coat
  10. A small fan for those hot days
  11. Milk crates or stackable shelves
  12. Earthquake kit with a flashlight for rolling blackouts (www.lifesecure.com has some emergency kit options)
  13. Clothes—but not your entire wardrobe, as space is limited!
  14. Headphones to respect quiet hours
  15. Clip-on light - for reading in bed
  16. Dry erase board
  17. Camera, plus pictures from home
  18. E-mail list—so you can communicate for free with your family and friends from home
  19. Removable decorations to personalize your space
  20. Enthusiasm for meeting people, & an appetite to learn!
