health insurance
Saint Mary’s College requires all full time undergraduate students have sickness and accident insurance coverage. The Health Center is pleased to inform you that we have contracted with Aetna Student Health to provide our plan again this year. The Aetna Insurance Company has providers locally and nationally. Our carefully created plan assures maximum access to health care with minimum barriers at an affordable price. This plan has been carefully crafted and designed for SMC students, with several changes from last year.
In order to waive participation in the Student Health Insurance Plan (Plan), students must have comparable coverage through another insurance plan and complete the Online Waiver form by August 1, 2009. Waiving insurance for the fall semester will automatically waive insurance for the spring semester. If the Online Waiver is completed prior to June 30, 2009, you will not see any charge on your fall tuition statement. If you would like to enroll in the Plan, follow the enrollment procedures to ensure proper registration for health coverage beginning August 1, 2009.
NOTE: Unless waived on-line, all registered students enrolled at SMC taking 3 or more classes per semester will automatically be enrolled in the Plan and billed on their fall tuition statement sent in July. Whether you wish to enroll or to waive the Saint Mary’s Plan, you should go on-line and complete the online enrollment/waiver. If you do not enroll for or waive coverage, you will be automatically enrolled in the Saint Mary’s College plan and charged the applicable premium. Once you are enrolled, the coverage can not be cancelled.
The Online Waiver/Enrollment form is available at www.aetnastudenthealth.com after June 15, 2009. Click on “Find Your School” and enter 812850 as the school policy number, then follow the link titled “Enroll/Waive”. Print page or make note of confirmation number as this will be required to challenge insurance charge.
This insurance Plan costs $826 for coverage from August 1, 2009 through July 31, 2010. You will be charged $413 per semester on your student account if you do not complete the Online Waiver by the above-mentioned dates. No refunds will be made after the closure of the waiver process. Once you are enrolled, the coverage can not be cancelled.
The mandatory insurance requirement does not affect your access to the Health and Wellness Center services. All full time undergraduate students are eligible to use the Health and Wellness Center at no charge regardless of their insurance coverage. Services are available Monday-Friday
8:30am-4:30pm. During these hours we encourage students to use the Health and Wellness Center for their health care needs. If your current insurance is an HMO with restricted out-of-network coverage, you may want to consider enrolling in the Plan to make obtaining health care in the area easier for you. For student athletes, please be aware this plan does not cover athletic injuries when playing intercollegiate sports.
