Health education
Our goal is to promote physical, emotional, mental, and spirtual well-being among the SMC community. In order to achieve our goals, we provide educational materials, campus-wide presentations/lectures and stress relaxation classes. The Health & Wellness Leadership Team is also an integral part of the Health & Wellness Center. These are undergraduate students who help steer students in the right direction towards living a healthy, active lifestyle. These students also play a vital role in the delivery of health education information. Educational materials are distributed throughout the campus in the form of flyers, pamphlets, brochures, posters, table tents and handouts. Most of our educational materials are provided during our table events in Oliver Hall and in the Ferroggiaro Quad area, during Residential Advisor (RA) training, in one-on-one consultation sessions, and during campus-wide outreach programs. These various programs provide individuals the opportunity to learn how to incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives. These programs also provide them with the tools to prevent disease and nurture their bodies, minds and spirit for success now and later on in life.
The Health and Wellness Center provides one-on-one consultation sessions to students in the areas of:
- Body Acceptance
- Exercise and Physical Activity
- Nutrition
- Stress Management and Relaxation
- Sleep Hygiene
- Sexual Health Education
- Alcohol & Substance Abuse Education
- Preventative Care
