health insurance
Saint Mary’s College requires all full time undergraduate students have sickness and accident insurance coverage. The Health Center is pleased to inform you that we have contracted with Aetna Student Health to provide our plan again this year. Aetna Student Health has providers locally and nationally. Our carefully created plan assures maximum access to health care with minimum barriers at an affordable price. This plan has been carefully crafted and designed for SMC students.
In order to waive participation in the Student Health Insurance Plan (Plan), students must have comparable coverage through another insurance plan and complete the Online Waiver form by September 12, 2008. Waiving insurance for the fall semester will automatically waive insurance for the spring semester unless a change is requested. If the Online Waiver is completed prior to June 30, 2008, you will not see any charge on your fall tuition statement. If you would like to enroll in the Plan, follow the enrollment procedures to ensure proper registration for health coverage beginning August 1, 2008.
NOTE: Unless waived on-line, all registered students enrolled at SMC taking 3 or more classes per semester will automatically be enrolled in the Plan and billed on their fall tuition statement sent in July. Whether you wish to enroll or to waive the Saint Mary’s Plan, you must go on-line and complete the online enrollment/waiver.
The mandatory insurance requirement does not affect your access to the Health and Wellness Center services. All full time undergraduate students are eligible to use the Health and Wellness Center at no charge regardless of their insurance coverage. Nurses are available Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm, with clinicians available at different times each day. During these hours we encourage students to use the Health and Wellness Center for your health care needs. If your current insurance is an HMO with restricted out-of-network coverage, you may want to consider enrolling in the Plan to make obtaining health care in the area easier for you. For student athletes, please be aware this plan does not cover athletic injuries when playing intercollegiate sports.
