Student Presentations on Migrant Labor
What: 19 students who attended a series of immersion weekends in Salinas will present on the issue of migrant labor in the California fields and on the larger topic of immigration. This presentation will take place in the Chapel and will include photographs and video from their journey, insights garnered from their readings on Catholic social teaching, NAFTA and human rights abuses in the field of agri-business.
During their immersion weekends, students stayed in a homeless shelter, picked lettuce in the fields, visited organic farms, spoke with the mayor of Salinas, and continuously reflected on the complexities of immigration/migrant labor. We invite all students, faculty, staff, and administration to attend.
When: Sunday, November 23, 9:10 p.m. (after the 8 p.m. Mass)
Where: Chapel
