Student Volunteers Discuss Relief Efforts in New Orleans
Saint Mary's students and Associate Dean of Liberal Arts Shawny Anderson discussed their experiences performing thousands of hours of relief work in New Orleans during the two years since Hurricane Katrina on Sunday's 11 p.m. ABC 7 newscast. The students, some of whom will return to New Orleans in January 2008, shared stories of clearing flooded houses and developing relationships with hurricane victims. The newscast noted that such community service is an important part of the learning experience at Saint Mary's College, and that in 2005 the College enrolled 10 students temporarily displaced by the hurricane.
