We may only be a few weeks into summer but Facilities Services has already been hard at work paving the way for a smooth academic year ahead. With more than 70 projects funded for the year—from painting the Chapel tower to opening up more study space in the Library to modernizing the Soda Center—the facelift crew is off to a roaring start. Many roads and parking lots have already been newly paved and striped. As the summer proceeds, remember that noise, dust, orange cones and backhoes mean progress and improvement to Saint Mary’s buildings and roads.
Significant projects include a new, more efficient heating and cooling system in Brother Urban Gregory Hall, the second phase of painting the outside of the Chapel (which will require non-wedding-friendly scaffolding, so is scheduled for June 2015), removing periodicals in the Library to make room for more student study space, modernizing the Soda Center, and adding more tables and umbrellas in Ferroggiaro Quad.
(The paving projects that made driving and parking a bit challenging during the last few weeks are now finished.)
Intramural sports and teams will be delighted to find better lighting at the Intramural Field, new grass and a new sound system for the Stadium, and a new boathouse for rowing teams at the Briones Reservoir.
Rheem Campus workers will see upgrades to the conference room, a new roof, and a Graduate Business TV Studio for Distance Learning.
Students returning to campus this fall will find a complete electrical upgrade at Assumption Hall, which includes rewiring of all rooms, plus remodeled restrooms at Augustine Hall, new landscaping at Freitas Townhouse, and new bathroom floors in many canyon area residences.
