The Great Interfaith Conversation (2012)

Speakers from four different religious backgrounds – Diane Muller (Christianity), Ameena Jandali (Islam), Ken Maki (Judaism) and Sulochina Lulla (Hinduism) – came together in an interfaith dialogue to raise awareness about the value of religious pluralism. This event was one of SMC's Sesquicentennial Year Celebration "Great(est) Conversation" events.

Patrick McCollum (2011)

Winner of the Mahatma Gandhi Award for the Advancement of Religious Pluralism and board member of Children of the Earth spoke on "Young Leaders on the World Stage: Cultivating Spirituality and Building a Global Community."  He was joined by Center Intern Chloe Doan who shared her Children of the Earth experiences in Nepal.

 

 

Father Dennis Holtschneider (2010)

President of DePaul University, spoke on "A Call to Interfaith Engagement: Every Voice Matters" and how interfaith engagement is an important Catholic value, which DePaul University has embraced across its campus.

 

 

Eboo Patel (2009)

Founder and President of the Interfaith Youth Core, and member of President Obama's inaugural Advisory Council on Faith-Based Neighorhood Partnerships, spoke on "Acts of Faith: Building an Interfaith Youth Movement for the 21st Century."

The first in a series of Great(est) Conversation(s) in celebration of our Sesquicentennial year.

Catholic, Jewish, Hindu, and Muslim panelists will discuss the importance of inter-religious understanding.  This event celebrates Saint Mary's mission-focused commitment to interfaith dialogue as, in the words of Pope Benedict XVI, "not only a means of enhancing mutual understanding, but also as a way of serving society at large."

 

SMC Professor Attends White House Briefing for Religion Scholars

Saint Mary's Professor Barbara McGraw attended an invitation-only White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships' briefing on the goals and progress of the President's faith-based initiative. The five-hour event on May 11 was entitled "Advancing the Common Good at Home and Abroad" and was held in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, The White House, Washington, DC.

Letters to Nepal

The Center for Engaged Religious Pluralism's Children of the Earth's (COE),  hub will be hosting a letter writing/postcard campaign for children in Nepal.

The group's goal is to raise money for the children of Nepal, and to reach out and form a connection with them through these letters/postcards.

A  letter writing and fun arts & crafts style stations will be set up. 

All students, staff and faculty are welcome to particapte.
