In July, the Class of ’58 will celebrate our 55th Reunion at Saint Mary’s College. In addition to announcing our upcoming reunion, we are writing with Class of ’58 Golden Gael Endowed Scholarship update.
So many of us were lucky enough to attend our 50th Reunion on campus, reminiscing about all we had accomplished and acknowledging the defining impact the College has made on our lives. The Class of ’58 Golden Gael Endowment that was established in honor of our 50th reunion is now part of our legacy that will last in perpetuity for future generations of Gaels.
We are pleased to report that we have awarded our first recipient of the Golden Gael scholarship. Jillian Bockenkamp, a junior and standout English major with an emphasis in creative writing and a minor in psychology from Carondelet Catholic High School in Concord, California is currently benefiting from the scholarship. Jillian, a President's Award for Educational Achievement and President's Volunteer Service Award winner, not only excels in the classroom, but also contributes to the campus spirit through her work on the Campus Activities Board and Associated Students of Saint Mary’s College Senate. Jillian has aspirations to work for a book publishing company upon graduating from Saint Mary’s.
We raised a total of $55,000 during the last reunion campaign, which enabled us to create this enduring scholarship. Currently only 30 percent of the class has contributed to the scholarship fund, but if each of us committed to making a gift this year, we could reach our new goal of $100,000 to benefit students like Jillian and continue our class’s tradition of giving back to Saint Mary’s. We also hope that everyone who has given in the past will consider making a new pledge, a one-time gift or explore an estate gift to benefit our Class of ’58 Golden Gael Endowed Scholarship. And as you may recall, preference is given to descendants from the Class of 1958 (children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, etc.) for receiving the scholarship.
In early May, you’ll receive your official invitation for Reunion Weekend on July 19-21, 2013. Our Reunion Giving Officer Karrie Pingle ’08 will help coordinate our class reunion committee’s outreach efforts, so look forward to getting a call from one of us in the next few weeks.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to having all of our 67 fellow classmates in attendance at our 55th Reunion on July 19-21, 2013. Go Gaels!

Why is Alumni Participation Important?
The collective support of alumni provides critical funding for student scholarships and strengthens all aspects of the unique Saint Mary's educational experience. Alumni participation also affects both the College’s ability to receive grant support from foundations and corporations and is used to determine Saint Mary's' national rankings in publications such as Forbes and U.S. News and World Report. Show your pride in SMC by making a gift in honor of our 55-year reunion!
