The Gaels Open Fall Season at Chico Invitational

October 11, 2008-- Over the weekend, the Gaels traveled to Chico State for a Fall Invitational Tournament. They finished the day 2-1-1. In the morning the Gaels faced the first of three Chico teams participating in the tournament. Thanks to some key goals late in the game, the Gaels pulled out a victory by a score of 5-3. The next match-up pitted Saint Mary’s against the second team from Chico. Despite solid defense in the second half, the Gaels fell by a score of 7-1.

MORAGA. Calif.- The Saint Mary’s Men’s Lacrosse team recently completed a successful Fall season which included an excellent showing at the Chico tournament, a number of hard fought games, and a great turnout for the 4th Annual Saint Mary’s Lacrosse Invitational Tournament.

SMC Team Captain Finishes 5th Overall at Regionals

October 6th, 2008-- Brian Detrick finished 5th in Slalom, 10th in Trick, 12th in Jump and 5th Overall at the West Coast Water Ski Assocation (WCWSA) regional tournament on Oct. 4th & 5th in Bakersfield, CA.

 

Sophomore Adrian Amaral Finds the Net Against Chico

October 5, 2008: With an assist from freshman Emmanuel Camargo, Adrian Amaral found the net for the Gaels on Sunday, Oct. 5th in a 1-2 loss to Chico.

Detrick Earns Overall Title at Chico

September 28, 2008 Chico, CA-- Brian Detrick placed 3rd in Slalom and 2nd in Trick at the Chico State Opener on September 26th & 27th. Detrick also finished in 1st place as the weekends top Men's Overall competitor. Over 14 schools and 130 competitors attended the Chico State Opener over the weekend. Detrick and the SMC Team are look forward to competing in the WCWSA Regional’s, hosted by UCLA, in  Bakersfield October 4-5th.

SMC Senior, Guillermo Trujillo Nets Game Winning Goal

September 21, 2008--Game winning defense and a first half goal by Senior, Guillermo Trujillo earned the Gaels a win against Chico in their final game of the Aztec Cup. “We had great composure and ball movement throughout the game”, explained sophomore Ernie Mejia. The Gaels finished strong this weekend, and are looking foward to their Fall Season.

Gaels Finish Strong at 3rd Annual Aztec Cup

September 21, 2008--The Gaels launched their 2008-09 season at the 3rd Annual Aztec Cup in San Diego over the weekend. SMC finished 2-1, defeating Pepperdine 4-0 and Chico State 1-0. The only loss SMC suffered was in a high paced match up with Fresno State (1-3). Finishing with a 2-1 record, the Gaels tied for first place in their bracket, missing out on the championship game by tie breaker.

SMC Senior, Ryan Klasila is Unfazed by Fresno State

September 20, 2008-- SMC Senior, Ryan Klasila found the net for the Gaels in the first round of the 3rd Annual Aztec Cup.  Although the Gaels suffered a 1-3 loss, they outshot their opponent 8-3, and maintained possession for most of the high paced game.

Gaels Beat Pepperdine, 4-0

September 20, 2008-- The Gaels outshot and outscored the Pepperdine Waves in the second round of the Aztec Cup over the weekend. “SMC kept control the whole game and dictated the speed of play”, explains sophomore Ernie Mejia. Four SMC players contributed goals during the game: Kevin Clark (Junior), Brandon Cooper (Sophomore), Ernie Mejia (Sophomore), and Guillermo Trujillo(Senior) each found the back of the net in the victory over the Waves.

 

Sophomore Standout Brian Detrick Launches his 15th Ski Season

When he was 1 yr old, Brian Detrick's family built their home on a man-made water ski lake. Just two years later, Detrick learned to ski and entered his first competition at the age of 4yrs. Now in his sophomore year at Saint Mary’s College, Detrick is ready to launch his 15th season of Regional and National competition. In hot pursuit of going pro in the 2008-2009 season, Detrick is looking to build on the strength of his team, hoping many of his teammates will qualify Saint Mary’s for Nationals  (as a team)  and reach All-Stars (as individuals) in the fall.
