SMC Beats DVC to Close Out the Fall Season 4-3-1

November 21, 2008--The Gaels closed out the Fall season with a Friday night scrimmage against Diablo Valley College of Concord. Everyone on the Saint Mary’s sideline saw action as the Gaels routed the Vikings 14-3 to close out a 4-3-1 Fall Season. Lacrosse season at Saint Mary’s will be back in full swing beginning in early January with Jan Term Two-a Days as the Gaels look towards a successful WCLL season and possibly a berth in the MCLA Championship Tournament in Denver on May 12th-16th.

Lacrosse Hosts the 4th Annual Saint Mary's Lacrosse Invitational

November 15, 2008-- The weekend brought the pinnacle of the Fall Season to SMC as the gaels team hosted the 4th Annual Saint Mary’s Lacrosse Invitational Tournament. Six WCLL teams: Saint Mary’s, Cal, Santa Clara, UC Santa Cruz, UC Merced, and Nevada, participated.

Team Cliff-Bar Visits Moraga for a Friendly Match Up with the Gaels

November 8, 2008-- The Gaels recently hosted Team Cliff-Bar, a post-collegiate men’s club team. Although the official score was not kept, Cliff-Bar won handedly.  The Gaels had much to learn from the experienced club and look to put the experience to good use at the 4th Annual SMC Lacrosse Invitational on November 15th.

SMC Rugby Launches Season in Provo, Utah

Nov. 7, 2008--The SMC Men's Rugby team departed on Friday morning (by bus at 4:00am) for a weekend tour in Provo, Utah. The team launched their season with a 6:00pm match against Utah Valley (W, 31-22 ) and a 7:30pm scrimmage with BYU.

SMC Breaks Away Early Against Cal

November 2, 2008--The Gaels hosted their first home game of the season against Cal on Saturday. In rainy conditions, sophomore Molly Bloom broke away early to score the first tri of the game. Andy Garcia completed the two point conversion and the Gaels lead Cal 7-0 early in the game.

Victory over UC Merced is an Exciting Finish for the Gaels

October 25th, 2008--The Gaels finished an exciting regular season with a 6-1 victory over UC Merced on October 25th. Ryan Corriveau, Brandon Cooper, Chris Khoury, Kevin Clark, and David Lopez each contributed goals for the Gaels. With the win over UC Merced, the team finished their regular season 5-2-1, and is currently waiting to see if they will qualify for regional competition.

Gaels Finish in 1-1 Tie Against Stanford

October 19th, 2008--Although the Stanford Cardinals scored early in the game, the Gael’s defense would hold Stanford to one goal for the duration of the game.  Junior Ernie Mejia tied the game off a corner flick from senior Ryan Klasilas. In the second half, a free kick by Kevin Clark nearly won the game for the Gaels. SMC is currently 4-2-1 heading into their season finale.

Groth & Garcia Find the TriZone Against Humboldt

October 18, 2008--In the first scrimmage of their pre-season, the Gaels came out with a strong performance. Although the day ended in a 10-20 loss, returners Groth & Garcia found the TriZone for the Gaels.

Gaels Beat UC Santa Cruz 2-1

October 18th, 2008--The SMC Gaels defeated UC Santa Cruz 2-1 on Saturday. Junior, Ryan Corriveau scored the first goal off a Kevin Clark throw in. The UCSC slugs tied the game before the half with a penalty kick.

The Gaels came out stronger than ever in the second half. Early on, Junior Ernie Mejia headed the ball down field, and after some ball movement by the Geals, senior Ryan Klasila headed in the game winning goal.
