Bill Goodykoontz, the chief film critic for Gannett media (USA Today) and the Arizona Republic spoke with Saint Mary's Communication Professor Ellen Rigsby about the staying power of the 'Transformers' film franchise. Rigsby, whose academic research includes societal representations of race, gender and politics in comics and science fiction, is quoted extensively in the Arizona Republic story 'Transformers' in the tank? Held last week in the offices of Yammer —a business to business social networking company— located in the Twitter building in San Francisco, the summit brought together Saint Mary's professors, students and tech industry leaders to explore how technology companies can assist colleges in teaching the liberal arts in the digital age.

The Hechinger Report, an education news website, interviewed Saint Mary's Communication Professor Dan Leopard for an article on MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses). In the article "MOOCs keep getting bigger. But do they work?" which explores the effectiveness of MOOCs, Leopard questioned the growing acceptance of MOOCs by many in the fields of politics, education and journalism.  The Hechinger Report is a nonprofit, nonpartisan education-news outlet based at Columbia University's Teachers College. Its stories are carried by several major news outlets, including Time.com.
