Endowed Scholarship to Honor Brother Michael Quinn

A new endowed scholarship provides scholarship funds to future Saint Mary's students and honors the contributions to the College of Brother Michael Quinn, FSC. Brother Michael was president of the College from 1962–69, taking office after the sudden death of his predecessor, Brother Albert Plotz, FSC, in a car accident. Brother Michael oversaw the completion of most of the campus plan drawn up by his predecessor, including the construction of Saint Albert Library.

Missing Seminar?

The Brother DeSales Perez Great Books Seminar Series offers a discussion group for alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends. The series was renamed in spring 2005 to honor the late Brother DeSales Perez '53, faculty moderator of the Alumni Great Books seminars for 10 years. Led by Professor Robert Gardner, seminars are held on campus on the third Tuesday of the month, from 7-8:30 pm, throughout the academic year (except December).

A Major of Their Own: Women's Studies Gains Official Status

Thirty-five years after women were first admitted to Saint Mary's College, Women's Studies has been declared an official undergraduate major in the School of Liberal Arts. Previously the program, launched in 1993, was available only as a minor or individualized major.

Brother Ronald Gallagher, FSC, will be inaugurated next month as Saint Mary's 28th President. The inaugural celebration, focusing on community and core traditions, marks a new era for the College under his leadership. In a vision statement to the College community last November, Brother Ron urged that Saint Mary's explore, renew and deepen its Catholic, Lasallian and liberal arts traditions at every level of the institution. We've spent recent months exploring how to make this magazine more fully reflect those traditions.
