Alumni and Bob Gardner Support the Reemergence of Men’s Crew

Bob stepped in to help the team learn about the tradition of rowing at Saint Mary's and assist in developing team inventory. Bob is also on the water each week providing skill building clinics for SMC Men's rowers.

Men's Crew Goes from Start Up to Thriving

April 7, 2011- Saint Mary's recently asked the Men's Crew team, "What allowed the program to move from a start up feel, to thriving this year?" The team had much to share.

"The word is getting out, the team is recognized around campus and we have committed rowers," explained the Gaels at Wednesday’s practice.

The current team credits the early mentorship of alumni Bob Gardner and SMC student Chelsea Serrano, an OCC coxswain who transferred to SMC, as a key elements of their early development.

2008-2009 Men's Crew Seeks Interested Athletes!

Be a part of the fast-moving excitement on the water next year! The Men's Crew competes as part of the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association. Most recently, the team has been especially successful in the smaller boats, rowing a fast novice four.

Whether you are a prospective student, or a currently-enrolled student looking for a new competitive opportunity, we encourage all interested athletes to contact us and get involved.

No previous experience with rowing is necessary, just a willingness to work hard and learn the sport!

Crew Continues Success at Dad Vail Regatta

May 9, 2008--Schuylkill River, Philadelphia, Penn.

Saint Mary's Men's Crew has continued their successful streak from last weekend, rowing a strong 6:51.664 in the Men's Novice Four event to move on to the Semi-Finals.

Amid rain and delays, the SMC team put together one of their fastest times of the season to finish second in a very close race. The winner of their heat was the crew from Brock University of Ontario, Canada. Other finishers, in order, were: Bowdoin, Vassar, American and Binghamton.

Men's Crew Earns 4th Place in Exciting Finish at WIRA Regatta

May 3- 4, 2008--Lake Natoma, Calif.

The Men's Crew team placed fourth overall out of 15 boats competing in the Men's Novice 4 category in the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) annual regatta.

Coxswain Brad Alban '11 noted that the team's best race was Friday, when they rowed a 7:09.2 to finish second in their heat. Their time proved to be the second-fastest time out of all the boats in the category.
