Highlights of the Gaels' season this year include a Fall Utah tour and several upset wins. The Gaels end their season at 21-2-1 overall. Riddled with injury, the Gaels lost to Army and Tenessee in the Sweet Sixeen in Atlanta, Georgia. Following their standout season, USA Rugby announced the 2009 All American Roster. Among the honorees were five Saint Mary's players including: Chad Clark at Flyhalf, Brendan O’Meara at Center and Brandon Vedder at #8 who were selected to the elite team. Ryan Martens at Center and Nick Wallace at Prop were named to the All-American Honorable Mention list.

March 13, 2009-- The Gaels traveled to Reno to play the University of Nevada-Reno Wolfpack in a Friday night show down.

The SMC b-sides took the field first and shut out the UNR b-side 74-0.

Gaels Beat Stanford 66-20

January 31, 2009 ARN- In the Saint Mary’s-Stanford game, the Gaels led the Cardinal 28-15 at the half, but after some halftime adjustments the floodgates opened and Stanford couldn’t stop the onslaught.

“Stanford may have three of the fastest players playing rugby on the Pacific Coast," said SMC head coach Tim O'Brien.
