Saint Mary’s College Graduate and Professional Student Development Fund supports and encourages independent academic research and professional development for graduate and professional students through the distribution of grants to individual students.
The May/June issue of American Scientist magazine features a poem by Saint Mary's English Professor Brenda Hillman. The poem "Summer Mountain Lightning & Some Music," which references the pioneering electrical engineer and inventor Nikola Tesla, is among several works by noted poets featured by the magazine over the last year as poetry inspired by science. The online version of the magazine notes Hillman's other literary publications and her academic ties to the College, acknowledging her as the Olivia C.
Professor of creative nonfiction, Marilyn Abildskov, is participating in Live! from the Library with local poet and memoirist Cheryl Dumesnil in an event titled, "Tell It Like It Is: An Evening of Memoir and Mayhem."
The New York Times Style Magazine has published a poem by Matthew Zapruder, a new poetry professor in Saint Mary's English Department. Zapruder's work "Poem for a Coin," appears in the March 24, 2013 print edition of the newspaper's magazine. The online version of the magazine features an audio clip of Zapruder reading his poem.
First-year fiction candidate, Charlotte Bhaskar, is featured in the Winter 2013 issue of Goblin Fruit. Her poem, "It Is Winter and Everything Is Cold, Thinks Robber Girl" is Charlotte's first publication!
