Inspired by SMC's unique Jan Term Program, CILSA in partnership with the Alumni Association at Saint Mary's has created an opportunity for alumni, family and friends of SMC to learn and serve in special places around the world.
To celebrate the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, on this week Saturday, May 31, at 7 p.m., Saint Giles’ Episcopal Church will be offering an Anglo-Orthodox Vespers service in the SMC Chapel (in the side Brother's Chapel). The name ‘vespers’ comes from the Greek word espera and the Latin word vesper, meaning ‘evening.’ In the Anglican tradition this service is often referred to as Evening Prayer or Evensong.
Rogation Sunday is the day when the Church has traditionally offered prayer for God’s blessings on the fruits of the earth and the labors of those who produce our food. The word “rogation” is from the Latin rogare, “to ask.” Historically, the Rogation Days (the three days before Ascension Day) were a period of fasting and abstinence, beseeching God’s blessing on the crops for a bountiful harvest.
Commencement rehearsal is Friday, May 23 beginning at noon on the turf field just outside the stadium. You should expect to spend approximately 45 minutes at the rehearsal. Don't forget you will also receive a free gift from the Alumni office at the end of commencement.
