The Lake County Record publised an op-ed by Saint Mary's Professor Stephen Sloane about the unfortunate state of the nation's democracy, where political gamesmanship and partisan bickering have triumphed over sound governmental policy.  Among other observations, Sloane, who teaches politics in the School of Liberal Arts, says"Today, politics and ideology trump policy and tough decision making"  that policy involves making hard choices based on the logic of the situation, while political iideology replaces sound choices for the public.
