SMC Announces New Hall of Fame Members

The Saint Mary's Hall of Fame Honors Court has elected six new members into the Gaels Hall of Fame. The honorees will be inducted at the 2006 Hall of Fame ceremony this spring. The 1958-59 men's basketball team, which advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, will also be recognized at the event.

David Carter '89, basketball: One of the best point guards ever to play in a Gael uniform, Carter led the Gaels to an NCAA Tournament berth in 1989.

Gael Rugby Celebrates Golden Anniversary

Ike was in the White House and Elvis was King when a small band of Gaels joined to play the rough-and-tumble sport of rugby. Though still a club, rugby now plays (and often beats) nationally regarded varsity squads. More importantly, rugby is a thread that remains unbroken through the fabric of Gael culture for 50 years.

Honoring Mike Ferrigno '66

The newly named Ferrigno Lounge in Brother Jerome West Hall (formerly V.I.P. Lounge) will honor the memory of Michael A. Ferrigno (1944-2005), who was associated with Saint Mary's College for four decades. Ferrigno died in February 2005 at his home in Walnut Creek. Ferrigno is credited with enhancing the College's fund raising and alumni relations strategies and capabilities while broadening its ties to individual and institutional supporters.

New Regents Named

Robin John Driscoll '88 was named president of the board of regents at a meeting of the board in May 2005. In addition, six new regents were elected in 2005: John Araudon, Martin Haley, Fred Naranjo, Wendy Nieto, Joseph Siler, and Kenneth Vincent.

Driscoll is president of the Driscoll Family Foundation and a director of BroadWare Technologies, a Web-based compression video technology company. His brother Joseph graduated from Saint Mary's in 1992, and his niece Erin is a senior at the College.
