State of the College

During his second State of the College address on March 7, Brother President Ronald Gallagher updated the campus on planning and announced Provost Sally Stampp’s intention to leave her post at year’s end and ultimately return to teaching.

Hall of Fame

The Saint Mary’s Honors Court inducted six new members into the SMC Athletics Hall of Fame for 2007. The class includes Trisha Dean ’00, John Leykam, Ed Lickiss, Tracy Morris ’00, James Mouton ’91 and Cassidy O’Hara ’89. The 1985 women’s volleyball team, winners of the NAIA national championship, was also inducted.

The class was honored during the Jan. 27 Gaelfest/Homecoming game against Pepperdine and formally inducted at the Soda Center in April.

Unique & Much Needed Ballpark Field Sought

 

The College is continuing to seek improvements to athletic facilities by focusing on proposals for a new baseball complex to replace the aging and inadequate Louis Guisto Field.

Endowment Funds Fiduciary Center

The Elfenworks Foundation has endowed the College’s Center for the Study of Fiduciary Capitalism to further its research on institutional investors and corporate governance. In recognition of this generous support, the center’s name will become the Elfenworks Center for the Study of Fiduciary Capitalism.

Saint Mary's students watch more than 1,000 new Americans take the oath of citizenship.

Brickpile Briefs

The Hearst Art Galley was accredited earlier this year for an additional 10 years by the American Association of Museums, remaining among a distinguished group of 775 museums out of the nation’s nearly 17,500 museums to be accredited. The gallery, which is the only accredited museum in Contra Costa County, has a permanent collection of 2,200 art objects, including 150 paintings by renowned California artist William Keith.
