Brother Jerome Gallegos FSC '61

Brother Jerome Gallegos ‘61, a Christian Brother for more than 50 years who held leadership positions at several Brothers' high schools in California, died at Mont La Salle on Oct. 17, 2008, following an extended illness.

East Bay Donors Continue a Scholarship Tradition

The annual dinner supporting the East Bay Scholarship Fund will be held on May 6 at 6 p.m. at the Claremont Country Club in Oakland.

The fund was founded more than 50 years ago, as Brother President Thomas Levi was nearing the end of a tumultuous term. He had already guided the College through the difficult Korean War days and the demise of football, but another problem had cropped up.

College Honors 2008 Alumni Award Winners

This year's award winners were honored at a reception and introduced to the McKeon Pavilion crowd during Gaelfest on Jan. 17.

Alumna Sustains Good Works in Guatemala through Enterpreneurship

Growing up in Guatemala during the country's civil war in the 1970s, Ibis Schlesinger '84 belonged to a family that stressed generosity. Her parents and grandparents always gave away food, clothes and money, even though charity sometimes aroused suspicion during the government's war against communists.

Erik Nunn EE ’02

Erik Nunn EE ’02, who was a candidate for Contra Costa County supervisor, was killed in a plane crash in June along with his wife, Tanya, and another couple. He was 37.

Golden Gaels Say It's Time to Give Back

Celebrating its golden reunion this year, the Class of 1958 decided to share its riches by establishing an endowed scholarship to help future generations study at Saint Mary’s.

Alumni Sought to Recruit New Gaels

The Alumni-Admissions Program is seeking more members, especially alumni from underrepresented minority groups, to recruit students of color to Saint Mary’s so that the College reflects the diversity of its West Coast community and enhances the educational experience of the student body.

Volunteers will work with Omar Zazueta ’03, the coordinator of minority student recruitment, by assisting in targeted college fairs in the fall, calling admitted minority students in the spring and working with community-based organizations throughout the year.

Gaelfest '09

All Things SMC

In what has become a winter ritual, hundreds of alumni will migrate back to Moraga for Gaelfest on Jan. 17, 2009 for the men’s basketball against Pepperdine. For the first time, the event will also showcase the Annual Alumni Awards winners.
