Reflections on a Late Inauguration

Perhaps it's ironic that the inauguration took place nearly nine months after I took over the presidency. Even though I have no doubt that assuming the responsibilities has been very real from the first moment, the inauguration has brought a kind of ceremonial and emotional closure to a prolonged beginning... As a community we prayed, thought, reflected, talked, listened, and played.

Faith and Science

God Vs. Science, a Memorial Forum

Last February’s campus forum “God vs. Science—Are they really that different?” was the brainchild of Saint Mary’s student Katie Springer. When Springer died in a car accident last year, her friend Savannah Pronovost vowed to make the event happen.

ALUMNI

All-Alum Reunion Announced

In 2006, Saint Mary’s will introduce the new all-alumni Annual Reunion Weekend, to be held on campus June 24-25. The event, which in a break from past years will invite all alumni back to campus together, will highlight classes celebrating their 5th, 10th, 25th, and 50th reunions.

The change is designed to enable alumni to get together every year instead of waiting for periodic reunions every five years. Also, alumni with friends from other years can now celebrate with a wider selection of schoolmates.

New Ways of Reaching Out

Saint Mary’s has launched several new initiatives in the last few months to help alumni stay in closer touch with the College and with each other. The Jerome Web portal, a new electronic newsletter, and Saint Mary’s online magazine all deliver College news and alumni connections in timely and convenient ways.

The jerome web portal, officially launched September 23, has already garnered a great response from alumni, according to the alumni relations office.

"Tell Them an Alum Sent You"

Through a special feature of the Saint Mary’s admission process, potential Gaels have an “inside track” that benefits both them and the College when they apply for admission.

Gina Meneni ’99, assistant director of admissions, directs the Saint Mary’s Alumni Admission program, which uses the help of alumni to reach out to high school students who may be particularly suited to a Saint Mary’s education. One element of the program is the alumni-endorsed application.

Grad Business Chapter Regroups

The Graduate Business alumni chapter is being revived after being dormant in recent years. An active group of alumni are recruiting participants to re-establish the association, form committees, and provide support for the business school.
