World AIDS Day was first observed in 1988. It was initiated by Health Ministers from around the world. World AIDS Day is about increasing awareness, fighting prejudice and improving education. On this day, people from around the world are encouraged to educate themselves about the reality of HIV/AIDS. More importantly, it also calls upon governments to keep the commitments they have made to fight the deadly disease. World AIDS Day is important for reminding people that HIV has not gone away ad that there are many things still to be done.
