Candidates in pre-service credential programs or credentialed teachers who recognize the need to enhance their knowledge and improve their skills for educating English language learners in K-12 settings can earn a Supplementary TESOL Certificate.

Prerequisites:
Single Subject Candidates:
  • SSTE 346 - Teaching & Learning I or equivalent, 3 units
  • SSTE 274 - Universal Access or equivalent, 3 units
Multiple Subject Candidates:
  • MSTE 211 - Learning & Development in a Multicultural Society, 3 units
  • MSTE 318 - Teaching Diverse Learners, 3 units
Education Specialist Candidates:
  • SPED 230 - Inclusive Education or equivalent, 3 units
  • SPED 274 - Universal Access or equivalent, 1.5 units
  • SPED 362 - Student teaching I, 4 units
TESOL Certificate Courses (6 units)
  • TESL 450 - Systematic Language Development, 3 units
  • TESL 440 - English from the Inside Out, 3 units

(Once TESOL Supplemental Certificate completed - Eligible to begin coursework for Master of Arts in TESOL)
