A new production of Aeschylus' Agamemnon, set in the United States against a wartime backdrop, will be performed at Saint Mary's College on Wednesday, Oct 1; Thursday, Oct. 2; and Friday, Oct. 3.

In this contemporary adaptation of one of the earliest Greek plays, the military hero Agamemnon appears as an American General returning from 10 years of war to face his wife, Clytemnestra. She is still mourning over the sacrifice of their daughter, Iphigenia, whom Agamemnon killed to promote the war. The ancient conflict between war and family, still so relevant, will be dramatized by The Collegiate Seminar Players using David R. Slavitt's lively modern translation (Univ/Penn.1998). The one-hour performances, directed by Saint Mary's English Professor Barry Horwitz, are free and open to the public.

Cast: Agamemnon, Phil Wharton; Clytemnestra, Saundra Alassio; Cassandra, Mahal Montoya; Citizens: Donna Abare, Alan Bodine, Ed Boyda and Anthony Campanile; Aegisthus, Andrew Williams III; Herald, Eric Wertz; Stage Manager, Andrew Jones; Technical Director, Chris Paulina; Lighting Design, Alex Lopez.

When: 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct 1;
