Our College's Incident Management Team continues to monitor issues
related to the H1N1 flu on our campus. Last Friday, the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention issued updated guidance for institutions
of higher education. It is available at
One probable case of H1N1 was identified at the College today. We
currently await definitive confirmation from the Contra Costa County
Public Health Department, expected in a few days. We have notified the
student's instructors and classmates. Our Health and Wellness physician
will be available for friends or classmates who are experiencing
flu-like symptoms (high fever and cough or sore throat) or have
questions. Please note that this student lives off-campus.
Following the recommendations of the CDC, the College will remain open
and will hold all scheduled events as planned.
Please remember the best way to decrease the spread of illness is to
follow the precautions identified by the CDC:
â€¢ Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
â€¢ Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough
or sneeze. Alcohol-based hands cleaners are also effective.
â€¢ Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
â€¢ Maintain a distance of about 3 feet from anyone who may be coughing or
