Want an excuse to wear your clothes inside out? Now's your chance!
Join us on October 18th by wearing at least one article of visble clothing inside out! This will let others know that you support stopping stigma at Saint Mary's Colelge and that you encourage reaching out for help and showing someone else what's inside your heart and mind.
Peer Health Leaders will be out in the quad on October 18th between 11am-1pm. They will have activities addressing the issue of turning stigma inside out and "stomping on stigma" at SMC (Stomping on bubblewrap)!
Each student who participates in an activity or shows up with an article of clothing turned inside out will be offered an opportunity to win 2 movie tickets and a journal.
A follow up activity will take place later that evening from 5pm-6:30pm. Those interested in the cause can join us for a discussion with on campus therapists regarding stigma on campus. We'll have food and the raffle drawing at this time!
National Day Without Stigma is a program recognized by hundreds of college campuses nationwide. This program highlights the importance of raising awareness and educating people about mental health issues and promote help-seeking.
The goals of NDWS are:
- To reduce stigma by promoting awareness about the prevalence mental health disorders and the reasons people struggle silently without seeking help.
- To create and nurture a supportive environment in which people can speak up and seek help about their mental health and other stigmatized topics on your campus.
- To allow Peer Health Leaders to showcase their SMC efforts to remove stigma from our campus.
