For 20 years, Karin McClelland-Anderer has been in the field of Lasallian education, leadership and volunteerism, working with students, families, educators and administrators to better education under the hardships of poverty. After receiving a B.A. in psychology from SMC, she earned an M.A. in counseling from Manhattan College in the Bronx and has used all her resources to combat adversity. She once rode a bike 4,000 miles across the country to promote literacy awareness.

McClelland-Anderer is a volunteer in Chicago schools and serves on the board for the Center for Social Justice and Peace Education. She says the best advice she received came from Brother Ed Phelan: “Anything truly worth doing is worth doing poorly. If you wait for ‘perfection’ before ‘doing’ you will miss a thousand opportunities.” Her advice to young women is, “The life journey is far more complicated than you could ever imagine! ... Keep yourself grounded by remaining close to your ‘soul sisters’.”
