Kathy Baldwin Miller graduated from Saint Mary’s as an English major and embarked on a long career in education. She holds an International Montessori Teaching Certification and a master’s in teaching for social justice from Evergreen State College. Miller is a professor of English at Centralia College and also teaches English as a Second Language. She credits the Brothers for important life lessons: “They taught me discipline and to care for the unlovable.”

Baldwin Miller also leads a fundamental literacy class for the developmentally delayed. “I believe I am able to show compassion and love to my students as a result of having Saint Mary’s be my home for four years,” she says. “Every class I teach and will ever teach learns the golden rule: Treat other people the way you want them to treat you. I learned this at Saint Mary’s.”

40 Years/One Night, a "Gaela" celebration recognizing the 40 Influential Women of Saint Mary's, will be held on Sat., Nov. 6 in the Soda Center. It begins with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner, a raffle and a silent auction. The keynote speaker will be Kristine Carlson, co-author of the Don't Sweat the Small Stuff series.
