AmeriCorps VISTA Program

AmeriCorps members in our VISTA project (a.k.a. VISTAs) are highly motivated self-starters who are dedicated to their anti-poverty mission to empower communities. Believe you have what it takes? JOIN US!

AmeriCorps is the federal agency connecting individuals and organizations through service and volunteering to tackle the nation's most pressing challenges, and Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC) is a proud grantee of AmeriCorps. We receive funding from them to operate our VISTA project, which is designed to strengthen partnerships between higher education and nonprofit organizations in an effort to alleviate poverty and create positive social change.

We host a yearly multi-campus program in which AmeriCorps members serve at nonprofit organizations partnering with SMC, Sonoma State University (SSU), Stanford University, and the University of San Diego (USD).

Our AmeriCorps members make a year-long (52 weeks), full-time (40 hours/week) commitment to serve specific objectives at nonprofit organizations. They endeavor to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of agencies that provide education services, foster economic development, and otherwise support low-income communities.
