A Letter From the President

 March 2014

Dear Members of the Saint Mary’s College Community,

It gives me great pleasure to announce Brother Armin A. Luistro, FSC of the Philippines as the outstanding Lasallian educator who will be honored on April 30th at this year’s Academic Convocation. The Convocation is at the center of our annual De La Salle Week activities, designed to celebrate our Lasallian educational heritage and leadership. Brother Armin currently serves as the Secretary of the Department of Education for the Republic of the Philippines.

Brother Armin will be recognized for his many accomplishments in higher education as both an educator and an administrator, for his leadership as Brother Provincial of the District of the Philippines and as President of De La Salle University System in the Philippines, for his service in numerous national and international educational associations, councils and boards, and for devotedly serving the people, particularly the youth, of his native Philippines with courage, commitment and collegiality.

The Convocation will begin at 12:45pm in the Saint Mary’s College Chapel, during which time Brother Armin will receive an honorary degree “Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership honoris causa” and give an address to the Lasallian community. There will be a reception immediately following that will provide an opportunity to visit with Brother Armin informally.

More information about the many De La Salle Week events and the Convocation will be coming out soon. It will be a joyful and varied celebration of our Lasallian heritage.

We are fortunate to have Brother Armin as our distinguished guest on this occasion, and I sincerely hope that you will join me in honoring him on April 30th.
