A New WCC Upstart

A Newsday article examines how far the Saint Mary's College men's basketball team has come as they step onto the court at Madison Square Garden tonight in the opener of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic tonight.

They will be strangers not only in the famous arena but in the national spotlight, the article states. Although the Gaels have been playing the sport for 90 years, a game in the Garden against a big-time team and telecast by ESPN2 marks a significant upgrade for the small institution operated by the Christian Brothers, it says.

"We'll get attention (for this) whether we want it or not," coach Randy Bennett said, realizing the potential for glory or gloom that hangs on his team's performance.
